I think bats probably lead very full, rewarding little rodent-y lives, and if they felt pity (which I don’t think they do; attachment, yes, awareness of the value of their mates, yes, sadness and even depression under some circumstances, yes, but I think pity is a uniquely human trait) they’d probably pity us our wingless state and our distaste for insects, but I love this pic and I think the poem is very clever even if I disagree with its sentiment. 😀
